The Licensee Education Program is designed to help pharmacists, licensees, and proprietors
- articulate the licensee’s and proprietor’s legal responsibilities, and the Alberta College of Pharmacy’s expectations when operating a pharmacy, particularly regarding the authority, responsibility, and accountability of licensees, in context with current legislation;
- use relevant resources to update and maintain knowledge about legislation and standards for operating a pharmacy; and
- develop understanding about the pharmacy licensee’s role: leader, manager, professional, and clinician.
The Licensee Education Program consists of:
- Two parts, Part A and Part B.
- Part A consists of five chapters (Chapters 1 to 5) and provides an overview of the licensee’s legal expectations and responsibilities involved in operating a pharmacy, particularly regarding the authority, responsibility, and accountability of licensees, in context with provincial (Alberta) and federal legislation. Part A of the program has been CCCEP-accredited for six continuing education units (CEUs).
- Part B consists of a content chapter, resources, and a self-assessment. The content chapter, Chapter 6, provides an overview of professionalism, what it means to be a pharmacy professional, leadership, and conflict management. The resources assembled in Chapter 7 provide licensees a means to help maintain their knowledge on legislation and standards for operating their pharmacy. The self-assessment in Chapter 8 includes questions on the legal expectations and responsibilities of a licensee and proprietor. Part B has been CCCEP-accredited for four CEUs.
- Proprietor Self-Assessment includes a self-assessment for proprietors in the form of multiple choice questions and interactive activities. This is the same self-assessment provided in Chapter 8.
